The Moab Regional Hospital hosted a Pre-Diabetes and Nutrition Management class with Janel Arbon, our local Registered Dietitian. If you missed this awesome class, have no worries, we took notes.
Pre-Diabetes means that your blood gluclose and blood sugar levels are higher than normal (100-125). It is estimated that 1/3 of adults in the United States qualify as pre-diabetic. However, pre-diabetes is completely reversible. Controlling your diet and exercising at least 5 times a week for 30 minutes or more can make a huge difference.
So, what’s the best diet to follow? It differs from person to person, but Janel recommends a Mediterranean diet.
This is what your plate should look like. The grains should be whole wheat and the healthy protein should be fish or poultry. Here’s a good guide to follow.
We recommend finding a diet that works best for you. If you’d like to schedule an appointment to talk about pre-diabetes with one of our doctors, please call 435-259-1113. Stay tuned for more events about nutrition put on by the Moab Regional Hospital. These events are FREE and very informative.
